Winter at the farm

Winter at the farm

Ask us which season we'd recommend, and most of the year we'll hedge. Winter, we won't.

From late November through February, Kukas settles into the kind of weather Rajasthan doesn't get much credit for — the desert-adjacent hills keep summer's reputation, but winter here is cool, clear, and forgiving in a way that changes how a stay actually feels.

Mornings you'll want to be outside for

Winter mornings at the farm start with a light haze over the Aravallis that burns off by the time breakfast is done. It's cold enough for a shawl and hot chai on the lawn, not cold enough to send anyone back inside. Amit still does his morning rounds of the garden in this weather — it's arguably the best time of year to be out in it.

The pool becomes an afternoon thing

Nobody's swimming at 7 AM in December, but by early afternoon, with the sun directly overhead, the water's pleasant enough that most guests end up in it anyway. It's a nicer rhythm than summer — you plan your day around the warmth instead of avoiding it.

Evenings are what winter is really for

This is the season for sitting outside long after dinner's finished. We keep a fire pit going on the patio, and there's something about a Rajasthan winter sky — genuinely dark, genuinely full of stars — that makes people stay out later than they planned to. Bring a jacket. You won't want to go in early.

Better for the roads too

If Amer Fort or the old city is on your list, winter is the easiest season to do it in — no midday heat to plan around, no monsoon showers to dodge. Mornings work well; so do late afternoons, with a fire pit and dinner waiting when you're back.

Book ahead for this one

Winter weekends are our busiest — word's gotten around. If you're thinking December through February, we'd suggest checking dates on Airbnb earlier rather than later.

Come and see it for yourself.
